The 1st Wednesday of each month is either an Exhibition or Competition meeting. Check the calendar to determine if the meeting is an exhibition night or a competition night. Non-members may participate in exhibitions, but only club members may submit images for competitions. Any questions or concerns may be directed to the LTPC Competition Coordinator, currently Bob Coorsen.
Exhibition Guidelines
- Members may submit up to 4 images total. Non-members are welcome to submit up to 2 images total. If we have too many to view in one night the number of images may be reduced, as needed.
- Submit images for review and critique. Images can be digital or prints. All aspects of submitted work must be the work of the member artist. Use of online clipart or unoriginal image aspects are not allowed. No identifying marks such as watermarks and copyright marks can be visible on the front of the image.
- Upload digital image(s) by 9pm on the Friday prior to the Exhibition meeting.
Competition Guidelines
- Members must be present at the Competition meeting to enter. Exception is given for members to enter 2 competitions a calendar year in their absence due to vacations and work conflicts.
- Members may submit up to 4 images total, but no more than 2 in any category: Digital Color, Digital Monochrome*, Color Print, Monochrome* Print.
* Monochrome images are defined as a photograph or picture developed or executed in black and white or tones of black and white. A black and white image with one other color is considered a color image/print. - Submit images for voting by club members and a photography professional guest judge. Images can be digital or prints. All aspects of submitted work must be the work of the member artist. Use of online clipart or unoriginal image aspects are not allowed. No identifying marks such as watermarks and copyright marks can be visible on the front of the image.
- Once an image has been submitted for a club competition, it may not be submitted again. Changing an image from color to black and white, or altering an image by cropping, or other means of editing, does not constitute a new image. Submitting an image that has been previously submitted to a competition will result in disqualification of that image and forfeiture of any points awarded to that image.
- Upload digital image(s) by midnight on the Friday prior to the competition meeting. Prints must arrive by 6:45 pm the night of the competition meeting.
Competition Awards
Ribbons will be awarded in each category for a Judges Award*, 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, and honorable mention. Points will be assigned for purposes of calculating end of year LTPC awards, presented at the LTPC end of year celebration. Points will be assigned as:
- Judges Award* – 10 points
* In addition to member voting results, an assigned non-competing judge will critique and score each image from 5-10 points, selecting the best image from each category (digital color, digital monochrome, color print, monochrome print) for a Judges Award. - 1st place – 8 points
- 2nd place – 5 points
- 3rd place – 3 points
- honorable mention – 1 point
Bonus subjects: Images receiving an award during competition will earn double points if the subject is aligned to specific assigned subject matter. Assigned subject will be announced prior to the competition.
Competition Skill Levels
There are three (3) different skill levels recognized by the club:
- Beginner (B) – Members who are learning the basic operation of the camera and the basic concepts of composition, exposure, lighting, and post-processing of images.
- Intermediate (I) – Members who are comfortable with photography fundamentals and knowledgeable in the concepts of composition, exposure, lighting, and post-processing techniques for creating images.
- Advanced (A) – Members who are experienced in the technical aspects of the camera and proficient in the concepts of composition, exposure, lighting, and post-processing techniques for creating images. May be skilled in more than one genre of photography, for example, landscape, portrait, macro, photojournalism, wedding, etc.
Advancement between skill levels is determined based on points received during the competition year (January-December). Participants in the Beginner or Intermediate levels who earn 35 or more points in the competition year will advance to the next skill level for the ensuing competition year. The LTPC Board may recommend individual advancements based upon a member’s skill.
