Do you want to increase your wildlife photography skills? Then join us for an in the field hands on Birds in Flight Photography workshop lead by Rob Palmer, an expert in the subject. This is a hands on workshop (so bring your gear) where we will be practicing with 3 to 4 fast flying birds:
- Red tailed hawk
- Gyrfalcon
- Aplomado falcon
- Harris’s hawk (possibly)
Topics covered:
- Camera modes (tv, s, av, and manual) with a focus on why manual
- What type of settings work the best
- How to hand hold and tracking skills
- Off camera flash some techniques for the use of fill flash
- Shooting without and with a tripod
- Portrait work with the birds
Equipment suggested:
- lenses 70-200 or 70-300, primes of 300, 400 or 500 although the 500 is usually too much reach
- tripod
- flash
We will start at 7 am to get some good early morning light. You get to spend about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes with each bird, learning and practicing your skills in a real world setting. With a maximum of 12 participants there will be a lot of one on one instruction and with such a small group everyone will be able to get great shots of these magnificent birds. This opportunity will not be available again until the fall. Since this is in February and it will be early morning dress in layers as it will be cold.
